Muhammad Ali Zahid
Muhammad Ali Zahid has made history by becoming the world’s first type 1 diabetic to be granted a professional licence by the British Boxing Board of Control. He is now on track to become world champion.
After being diagnosed with diabetes at the age of four Muhammad Ali played a range of sports as a child. At age eleven, watching his hero Ricky Hatton in a boxing match at Manchester Arena inspired him to pursue boxing which quickly turned into his career goal.
Despite turning professional in 2015 after winning multiple boxing championships and box cups, Muhammad Ali faced multiple devastating rejections for a boxing license due to his diabetes. He was finally granted the license three years later and has gone on to win every match he has competed in. Muhammed Ali now delivers inspirational talks at diabetes conferences to show people that diabetes shouldn’t stop you from achieving your goals.
