Sehri til Sehri 2019

Once again Crescent Community Radio held their annual live 24hour telethon appeal for the 4th year running. It was held on Friday the 24th of May 2019 from 3am until Saturday the 25th of May 3am! This year, the money raised was for families in Gaza, Gambia, Rohingya, Syria and Yemen.

The charity that was selected this year to run the appeal was Sheffield-based Families Relief, supported by Crescent Community Radio’s own presenter Abid Javed, who was in the hot seat for most of the 24 hours! Throughout the day, many presenters came in to support the appeal and collectively as a community, Rochdale managed to raise £32,000!!

The money raised will provide food packages for over 100,000 people in the countries selected.

Abid Javed said after the appeal,

“Thank you everyone for being there for me, thank you everyone for giving me strength by just being there. Alhamdulillah (All Praise is for God). Once again a record donation. 30,800 pounds were raised (at the time of speaking). A target of 100,000 meals was achieved. Thank you all for playing your part especially Guddo Rani, Humera, Saliah, Rukshanda, Baby Ji , Shabana, Anwar Shad, Ghulam Rasool, Afzal, Abdur Rehman and Faheem. Thank you to all my Crescent Radio brothers and sisters. Allah always keep you happy.”

After taking a well-deserved rest, Abid then said,

“Just woke up. Physically and mentally feeling absolutely drained, but spiritually feeling on top the word. Thank you for all your duas (supplications) and kind words. What a super team of presenters. What a super management. What a super radio station. May Allah guide us all. May Allah make this Crescent family and Crescent Radio go from strength to strength. Ameen”

This year’s amount raised broke the previous record last year by nearly £10,000!

This is an amazing result from the people of Rochdale and Crescent Community Radio would like to thank each and every person who supported and donated for this great cause.

Attached are pictures of the appeal and the donations at work to the most needy!
